Class Description: Beginner level pattern drafting course for Intermediate sewists.
For the fashion and sewing enthusiasts who want to be able to sew any garment for themselves without ever having to worry about proper fit again: Welcome to the Fit All Blocks pattern making workshop!
An extension of the Entry Level Course where students have the time to draft and fit one of the standard blocks (Skirt, Pants, Sleeveless Top). In this class students will draft and fit the following blocks: Loose bodice(top), waist length fitted bodice, fitted torso block, sleeve, pants, and skirt.
Join Stephanie Mould for a step-by-step entry level pattern drafting class. In the workshop you
will learn to make a set of blocks in your personal measurements!
A “block” is a master pattern with ease, darts, and necklines drawn in custom, they are usually in a thin cardboard for sturdiness and to trace out.
Small class size of 6 students max.
What You’ll Learn:
1. How to Take Measurements:
You’ll learn how to take proper body measurements using a measuring tape for yourself or a client.
2. How to draft a block:
Don’t be scared, but this is math (fractions and light geometry). If you hate math, that’s ok! I’m here to help with every step and phone calculators are encouraged.
3. How to Correctly use Drafting Rulers:
You will learn how to accurately use pattern drafting rulers such as the French curve, hip
curve, and square rulers.
4. How to Transfer Block Drafts to a Sewing Pattern:
You will learn how to properly use tracing paper to create a pattern with seam allowance, grainlines, and fold lines. There will be a 1 week break for the students to sew a muslin “mock-up”. This will require anywhere from ½ yard to 2 yards depending on what block.
5. How to Make Alterations to the Mock-Up:
Learn how to tell where the mock-up needs to be taken in, and how to transfer that to
your draft.
6. How to Transfer Draft to Cardstock:
The final step of the workshop is transferring your block draft onto cardstock using an
Awl. Then you will cut out and holepunch! You can now easily trace out your block and
create anything!
What to Bring:
• Measuring Tape in Inches.
• Pencils and eraser.
• Black and red fine tip markers.
• Ruler with inches: Ideally a clear grid ruler.
What we will Use: If you have, you are welcome to bring:
• Hip Curve Ruler
• French Curve Ruler
• Square Ruler
